That was a pretty Panigale :( You going to try the new R1 out?

Might want to consider one of these...

I kid, I kid. I just saw the article about your swamp excursion. I’m really sorry to hear that, she was a pretty bike. I hope they can salvage her, but if not, I think the RR might be a suitable replacement.

That’s a totes bummer about your panigale..... oooof.... But nice beemer! If I was looking for a sport bike, it’d definitely be between the Beemer and the Panigale....

One transmission recall? I wouldn’t be worried. Seems like it’s more of a preemptive recall anyway for people who suck at shifting and damage it.

I did the Keith Code Superbike School at Laguna Seca a few years ago. These were the bikes that the students and instructors rode. I was shocked at how easy and comfortable it was to ride at high speed, especially for a noob like myself.

It was a engineering defect, not a manufacturing defect. Bit bigger of a deal.

Yeah, I thought of the new R1 but if I did it I would want the R1M and I just dont want to pay over 20k for a bike. Not to mention, I track my bikes but thats only 5% of the time the other 95% of the time its on the street. The BMW ergonomics and creature comforts are amazing, Cruise control, heated grips, upshift/downshift clutchless, its just a nice bike to be on.

Awesome. 100% recommend. Everyone was great. I did the two-day level 1 and 2 class with a friend. Keith and the instructors start with the basics and add new concepts with each riding session. I was a faster, more confident, and (most importantly) safer rider by the end of the second day. It was a ton of fun and I would do it again.

Did you get to do the slide bike? That looks super fun, I’m not scared to slide a dirt bike but sliding a street bike either on the track or on the road kind of scares the shit out of me. I am going to do it.

Did anybody drop the bikes?

The slide bike was the only one they did not bring to Laguna Seca, but we got turns on the Lean Bike and the No BS Bike.

Yes, people dropped bikes. There were maybe 15 to 20 students and the range of our riding experience was vast. I was not expecting that. We had new riders, weekend warriors, commuters, and a couple folks that were amateur racers. Some folks were naturally fast. Some remained timid after 2 days.

There were rules for dropping the bike. I think you were allowed to do it once. The second time it happened, you had to leave. If I recall, you were responsible for the damaged parts. Some folks wrote checks at the end of the day.

The students ride stock S1000RR’s on street tires with race bodywork . The instructors bikes had the Akrapovic exhaust and slicks. The traction control is set to Rain mode for Day 1. The engine made less power and the lean sensors inhibited power-on mid-corner. At the end of day 1 and day 2 you could ask to have it put into a different mode. They taped over the speedometer so you were forced to use the feel of the bike and focus on your surroundings to gauge speed.

Classroom instruction was followed by track time. There was 1 on-track instructor for every 2 riders. There was a debrief with the instructor after each track session where they shared the good/bad/ugly of what they saw in your riding.

Anytime I track I always tape the speedo - its addicting to try to see how fast you’re taking corners. I carry blue painters tape in my tail section, anytime I hit the mountains roads and I know im riding hard I do the same thing. I don’t know if you experience it, but I can tell you I take corners way faster not knowing the speeds, I feel the bike and not focused on the overall speed.

What else have you looked at? Did you check out the Aprilia RSV4?

I’ll be picking up a new bike in the next month or so, and I’m torn between that and the new ZX10r. For now.

I’m a big Kawi fan - my other bike is a 636 Ninja but I heard the ZX10R just cannot stack up to the new super bikes. I’ve thought about the Aprila but the dealer network is very sparce and that worries me.
